39 weeks pregnant
At 39 weeks pregnant, I was on my second head cold in 3 weeks and recovering from gastro, all kindly passed onto me by my daughter at kindy. I was working and mumming (a 1 year old) full time and lacking all motivation to do anything other than lie down.
I'm so glad that I mustered up some energy to hop in the pool with Dan (my fiance) and get some photos under water. I had the idea that I wanted to do it for a while. "It" being actually becoming an under water photographer, but after 2 pregnancies and raising a little, the motivation to actually get started hadn't kicked in yet (and didn't really until post-partum).
Dan is a photo/videographer too, he actually started in the water capturing his mates surfing and eventually beautiful captures of empty delicious looking waves. So he was in his element directing me under water and I had an idea of the kind of photos I wanted to get.
I am usually pretty comfortable in the water growing up on the Gold Coast swimming at the beach, surfing and body boarding. However, the buoyancy at 39 weeks was pretty unexpected and my head cold made diving pretty tricky, so I'm fully aware what others could be experiencing, but I also have some tricks up my sleeve for mamas now.
I always go into a shoot wanting to nail a few shots that I have in my head, but then I love the magic that happens by allowing people to move freely and how they feel comfortable in the water and some spontaneous ideas that come to mind while we're in there.
I'm so so grateful now that I did muster up the energy to get a few photos as it really ignited the flame within me to do it for others.
